Sales pipelines from the previous version of Desktop Sales Manager - Version 4 (v4) - can be read and converted to Version 5 pipelines
The Pocket Sales Manager v5 uses XML formatted files to store sales Pipelines.
Pipelines
The Pocket Sales Manager can open and read sales opportunities from Pipelines that were created using Version 4 but once opened, these Pipelines can no longer be read by the v4 application. Opportunities built in Version 4 pipelines are automatically converted to Version 5 the first time they are opened.
Templates
Templates have grown more robust in v5. Any custom templates must be updated with Template Manager v5 before they can be used.
Converting Version 4 custom templates to Version 5
In the simplest case a Version 4 custom template is read and then saved automatically in the Version 5 (v5) format by Template Manager.
v5 templates do offer some extra capabilities, and it is really worthwhile update the template to take advantage of the new features . Outlook contact fields may be mapped to sales opportunity fields for easy transfer. For example, Fred Flintstone's name, email address, and telephone number could all be moved from an Outlook Contact record into sales opportunity fields in one step. In addition, a number of special index fields have been added - Product, Stage, Probability, etc. Updating your template's indexed fields greatly improves the on-screen analysis and reporting.

Any Templates created for v4 must be read and processed by the v5 Template Manager before being used to access Pipelines from either v4 or v5.
The 'standard' template has now changed slightly in Version 5, from the Version 4 Template. The Pocket Sales Manager now comes with a new standard Template file, called standardv5.sos
Version 4 Pipelines
If you have Standard Template pipelines that were created on Version 4, and you wish to continue to use them, the program will automatically convert them to Version 5 pipelines. The Standard Version 5 Template is slightly different than that for Version 4. After customer feedback, we have made a few changes to the Standard Template that we think will make it even more usable. When a Pipeline that was built under Version 4 Standard Template is opened in the new Pocket Sales Manager (or the Desktop Sales Manager for that matter!) the following changes are made to each Opportunity:
1.The v4 "Title" field is not included in the v5 Standard template so the "Title" field is combined with the Contact field. Thus, for example, a v4 Contact field "Buddy Young" and v4 Title field "CEO" get combined into the v5 Contact field as "Buddy Young, CEO".
2.The v4 Area/Region field and v4 Forecast field are not present in the v5 Standard template. Information in those fields is not converted to any v5 data.
3.The v4 Notes field has become the v5 Address field and we have introduced the Journal field as a v5 concept. Anything in the Notes field is moved into the new Journal field.
