The Pipeline files are stored as XML files on the Pocket PC and on the PC as part of the Desktop Sales Manager product. While this file format is extremely efficient for moving information around between Pocket devices, Personal Computers and web based information systems, it has some drawbacks, most noticeably that it is quite resource intensive from a processor standpoint.
Reading XML files on a Pocket PC is not the fastest thing you can do!
For this reason, we recommend that you keep your Pocket PC Pipelines down to somewhat less than 50 Opportunities, as the initial loading of a Pipeline takes approximately 0.5 to 1 second per Opportunity. Due to the significant performance increase of PC microprocessors, the Desktop Sales Manager does not suffer from the same performance issues, and so you may have pretty much as many Opportunities as you like in any one Pipeline.
Won or Lost Opportunities can be removed from your Pipeline using the Delete Won/Lost function, and the Desktop Sales Manager provides an Archive capability to save Opportunities to an Archive Pipeline for later analysis/reporting.
The Recalculate ON/OFF switch provides a way to optimize performance on your Pocket PC when you have larger Pipelines. If you are still suffering from 'performance angst', please contact us with details of the problem and we will see what we can do to assist.
