In this brief tutorial you will create a sales Pipeline and store a new sales Opportunity in the sales Pipeline.
If this is the first time you have used the PSM there are two things you want to do before you get started.
First - identify yourself via the Tools->User Information menu. Each sales Opportunity has an owner - the sales person who created the Opportunity and you probably want to associate your name with this sales Opportunity. Completing the User form will do it for any sales Opportunity created on this computer.
Second - we will create a sales Opportunity in this tutorial using the Standard template. Templates can adapt the PSM to different sales disciplines - e.g. residential real estate, media advertising, high technology sales, etc. As you begin to your own sales Pipelines, you may wish to use one of these custom templates, but for the tutorial we will use the standard template.
Action:SelectTools -> TemplateSelect the Standard template.
Now we are ready to create a new sales Pipeline - a simple task. The initial entry screen looks like:
Action:SelectCreate and a new Pipeline will be created and the following will be displayed:
You should now see an empty sales Pipeline on the screen. There are three main parts to the Pipeline window. The large tree area acts like the directory area in the Windows Explorer and will display a list of your sales opportunities.
We are now ready to put our first sales Opportunity into the new Pipeline. There are two methods for this on the PSM:
This process will allow you to enter the description field for the Opportunity, and then to save time, will automatically build all the other fields in the Opportunity by using the default settings from the Template you are using. You may then go back at your leisure either on the PSM or the DSM and change any fields as necessary.
This process will allow you to enter information into every field in the Opportunity, bringing up the fields in sequence for you on the screen. Note that the first field - the description field - is required. All other fields are optional. If you enter Price/Quantity/Discount information the revenue amount that is automatically calculated for you, will reflect the revenue value of this Opportunity. If you enter an estimated booking/closing date, the date information in the Opportunity will be updated.
...and THAT is all there is to it!
