There are just a couple of areas of the PSM that you configure to make it your selling tool. To get the most from the Pocket Sales Manager, be sure to configure these before starting your first sales Pipeline:
1) User Information from the Tools menu allows you to define information about the user of this application. Each sales Opportunity remembers the user who created the sales Opportunity. This is particularly useful information when a sales manager combines several sales Pipelines from different sales reps into one consolidated Pipeline, and facilitates some of the more powerful Executive reports available in the Desktop Sales Manager product.
The information in these fields is utilized in the system as follows:
User name
This is the name of the 'Sales Owner' of this particular sales Pipeline. Whenever a new Opportunity is added, or an existing opportunity is modified, this User name is attached to that Opportunity. All of the Executive reports in the Desktop Sales Manager may be grouped on this particular field so that sales managers can see pipeline information grouped by the salesperson that is responsible for particular Opportunities. If you are an individual user of the PSM or DSM products, this is purely a documentation field.
If you are part of a larger sales organization where sales Opportunities are sent to you from a central location for inclusion in your pipelines, you may want to use the Merge Pipeline function to merge these opportunities into your particular pipeline(s).
Additionally, the Change Ownership function will allow you to modify the Username associated with each Opportunity to be the one that you have entered into this User Name field, indicating your ownership of the Opportunity. This is particularly useful when you are required to send your Pipelines back to a central location for pipeline consolidation in the Desktop Sales Manager product, and centralized reporting using the 'Executive' reports in the DSM.
Organization
If a corporation is organized into a number of different groups such as Southwest Region, Eastern Region and North Central Region etc., with a number of salespeople in each group, this field contains the name of the particular group. All of the Executive reports in the Desktop Sales Manager may be grouped on this particular field so that sales managers can see pipeline information grouped by the 'Organization'. As with the Username, if you are an individual user of the PSM or DSM products, this is purely a documentation field.
Company Name
When printing reports in the Desktop Sales Manager, the contents of this field are printed on the bottom of each report.
2) Template from the Tools menu, allows you to choose the Standard Template that is provided as a general purpose set of information that will work for a large number of sales Pipelines, or you may select an industry template that customizes the Pocket Sales Manager to your specific industry and/or requirements. The Template Manager product allows you to create your own templates, and/or to change the 'mapping' of Outlook Contact information into Sales Opportunities.
