One of the facts of modern business is that we deal with many business channels and partners, and some of those partners may be a part of our sales process.

In one example consider a manufacturer who has channels and partners for selling their products. Their marketing group collects leads and enters them into the Desktop Sales Manager Pipelines for each area of the country. They can then distribute the leads to their partners who may or may not have Desktop or Pocket Sales Manager products. They may choose to develop a template with a field "Channel Partner" to track their lead distribution. For partners who are not using the Sales Manager products, they may choose to save the lead Pipelines as Excel spreadsheets for distribution.

The advantage of using sales Pipelines for lead distribution is that the manufacturer can get feedback from their partners on sales Opportunities. Some manufacturers track deals that are booked directly and pay a commission or finders fee to their partners. The partners "register" their deals through the exchange of sales Pipelines with the manufacturer.
