Win Lose, or Draw - Not Active Status Settings

Choosing a status of Won, Lost, or Postponed (any of the Not Active status settings) will cause the program to automatically ask you for a closing date:

The closing date is used in both sales cycle analysis reports and Month-To-Date and Quarter-To-Date reports. If you need to change the actual closing date you can adjust it in the Opportunity Edit form's Properties tab.

Journal Entries For Status Changes

Changes in Status can be automatically recorded into the Journal. Use Tools -> Configure -> Journal to turn this feature on or off. The Journal note is not added until the change of status is saved. Therefore, if you change the status of a sales opportunity, you will not see the Journal entry until the next time the opportunity is edited.
