Configure User Information and Template

White it may only take a few seconds to do, setting the User and Template information are important.

Your user information is saved in new sales pipelines that you create and in every sales opportunity that you create or edit, so it is important that the information be accurate.

The template that you select determines what data you collect about sales opportunities - e.g. a realtor wants to keep sales information that is different than a heavy equipment sales rep.

Configure User Information

The Configure menu is reached from Tools -> Options button. Complete the User Information fields.

"Make me the Sales Owner..." checkbox when editing items

When you edit an item you become the sales owner. There are situations where the editor of an item will not want to become the sales owner. A manager may make notes or a team member may update information. If you do NOT want to automatically be the sales owner of items that you edit, uncheck the "Make me the sales owner..." checkbox.

Organization

Pay special attention to the Organization field if your pipeline will be rolled up or consolidated with your peers. Typically, this field would be the name of a sales team. For example, if there are 5 sales reps in the Western Area, make sure that all 5 sales reps enter their Organization as "Western Area" rather than 'Western" and "West Region" and "Western Inside Sales", etc. Some reports group information together based upon the Organization, so like-named organizations get grouped together.

Configure Archive Information

You may optionally configure your archive pipeline file through Tools -> Options -> Archive Information. This tells the program where to store sales opportunities when the Archive button is pressed on the Opportunity toolbar. Closed sales opportunities may be moved into this pipeline. The archive pipeline can serve as a source of historical information on wins and losses. Use the Browse button to choose a file location for this pipeline.


Selecting the Template


The template is used to control the fields on the Edit Opportunity form. So the template determines the sales opportunity information that is collected and how it is used. Templates are created with Template Manager, or you can use any of the templates provided.
