Account turnover: A Cut and Paste example

The following example assumes you are a sales executive for Rhythm and Blues Services - a mythical professional services company that provides equipment and services to the professional touring musician. The example pipeline is based upon the Standard template, and uses either the Eastern Area or Western Area example pipelines that were installed with this program.  

Cut, Copy and Paste allows you to manage your sales opportunities. For example, you can cut an opportunity form one sales pipeline and paste it into another....

Cutting Opportunities

After realigning some territories within the company, you are sadly turning over several sales opportunities to a fortunate colleague. It happens; what are you going to do?

Let's cut the opportunities from your current pipeline and paste them into a new pipeline file that you can email to your (probably) undeserving colleague. Open the example pipeline
western.xml. We'll use two different techniques for cutting as a learning exercise rather than as a demonstration of the most efficient steps.

Let's cut one of the departing opportunities using the pipeline Windows' Analysis area. Select the opportunity you wish to cut by highlighting it in the list area of the pipeline window. You could right click on the opportunity and use the pop up "Cut" menu, but let's use the Cut button (with the sissors icon) in the Opportunities Clipboard area. Pressing the Cut button removes the opportunity from the current pipeline, and places it in the opportunity clipboard.

Now let's use a different selection technique to add two more opportunities into the clipboard. Touching "All" in the Pipeline group of the Navigator displays all the remaining opportunities in your (unfortunately) rapidly dwindling sales pipeline. Hold down the control key and select two more of the sales opportunities in the list area of your pipeline window Again, use the Cut button from the Opportunities tab. This adds these two opportunities to the clipboard, giving us a total of three opportunities in the clipboard.

Pasting Opportunities

By now we have accrued three sales opportunities in the clipboard. It's time to paste them into a new pipeline. Use the Pipeline tab's New button to create a new pipeline. Then use the Paste function from the Opportunities tab. The result is that three opportunities have been pasted into a new pipeline.
