You can create letters to your clients that incorporate information from a sales opportunity by a copy-and-paste process. Microsoft's Windows operating system provides a clipboard just for this purpose - for easily transferring information from one application to another.
Copy the Information From Desktop Sales Manager
In Desktop Sales Manager open a sales opportunity for editing and choose ACTION...--> Copy name/address to Windows Clipboard. This copies information from specific fields in your sales opportunity into the Windows Clipboard as text. You will hear a beep when the copy is completed.
The fields that are copied have the property Name, Company, and Address as set up by the Template Manager. The templates provided by Software On Sailboats have fields that bear these properties.
The text information in the Windows Clipboard will be:
Name
Company
Address
If any of these fields are blank, then the blank line is removed. If the template you are using does not have fields with the properties Name, Company, or Address, they will be omitted.
Paste to Microsoft Word
Open Microsoft Word with a new document or a template letter. Position the cursor where you want the name/address information and Click EDIT --> PASTE or right click and select Paste. The information from your sales opportunity will be pasted into the blank document.
Paste to other applications
The sales opportunity information that has been copied into the Windows Clipboard can be pasted into almost any Windows application: Outlook, Excel, Internet Explorer, Notepad, etc. You can also paste the complete text version of your sales opportunity using the ACTION...--> Copy all to Windows Clipboard
