Sales Opportunity
In Desktop Sales Manager, a sales opportunity holds information about your sale or prospective sale. 20 fields can track a wide variety of information, including activity journal, sales stage, probability, product and revenue information, etc. If in your business an individual represents a sale, then information about the prospect can be stored in on sales opportunity - much like almost any contact manager program would do. However, if your sales involved more that one contact, you are able to store information beyond just contact information in the opportunity record.
Pipeline
Your sales pipeline is a collection of all your sales opportunities. Pipelines are displayed in Pipeline Windows. Your pipeline is saved as an XML data file. A pipeline named West Coast would be saved as a file named WestCoast.xml. Sales managers may examine multiple pipelines or combine/merge pipelines to roll up sales territories.
Data Fields
There are 20 fields that can contain information about your sales opportunities. The first field is always used as a text field to describe the opportunity. The 20th field is always a check list.
Template
A template adapts the sales opportunity data fields to your style of selling and your industry. Templates are created using the Template Manager.
Properties
In addition to the data fields, there is special information associated with each sales opportunity. This is information that is derived from the data fields or elsewhere. Examples include the 'born on' date/time, sales owner, revenue (amount * quantity * discount), weighted revenue ( revenue * probability ) and so on.
