Inserting mailmerge fields
Fields are place holders where information from your contacts will be inserted. They appear in your email or document as something like <<Field Name>>. You can insert contact data fields and properties via the DATA button or Properties button in the Mail merge fields area of the Insert tab. Data fields are the 20 contact fields like Name, Company, Bus Phone, etc. Properties are derived fields like Age In Days, Owner, etc.

<<Name>> is a contact data field - <<First>> and <<Last>> are properties, address details are properties.
The properties of the contact data field
<<Name>> are <<First>> and <<Last>>. <<Name>> can be inserted from the Data drop down list. <<First>> or <<Last>> and other properties can be inserted from the Properties drop down list (with a bit of scrolling...)

Address 1, Address 2, City, State/Region, Postal Code, etc. are properties. So you can insert one of the properties derived from address - like the City - through INSERT --> PROPERTIES --> CITY.
